Happy New Year!
Did YOU make a New Year’s resolution? If you’re like about half of America, chances are you DID! And for most of those who made a resolution, getting healthier and more fit top the list! At the Spine & Injury Center, your Grand Junction chiropractor can help keep you on track with your wellness goals. We know how important it is to you to stay active, eat healthier and stick with your plan. So, here are three simple tips to get you started so you stay focused and DON’T get discouraged:
1. START SMALL! It’s all about “baby steps” so you don’t get overwhelmed. If you only do ONE thing today, throw away all junk food! If it tempts you, ditch it! This means chips, dips, sodas, cookies, leftover New Year’s desserts, any processed food, etc… This will be a huge start! You can do it! And each week, add something to help get you to your goal, such as eating more veggies, walking 10 minutes a day, or trying a new fitness video. Small steps eventually add up to long distances. Just keep moving forward!
2. SNACK SMART! Your Grand Junction chiropractor office advises you to make it easier on yourself by stocking your fridge with healthier snack options, such as baby carrots or cucumbers and hummus, any fruits you like, yogurt, almonds or walnuts, veggies, salad stuff, etc. If you love chips, try kale chips! They have that crunch you crave and are a snap to make….or buy them pre-packaged at your local health food store. They come in a variety of flavors so you’re sure to find one you like.
3. SMALLER SERVINGS! Cutting back on portions is the easiest change you can make, and it will probably have the biggest impact. Look at your plate like a pie chart: fill three-quarters of it with veggies, fruit, and healthy grains, such as brown rice or quinoa, and the rest with lean protein – chicken, turkey, fish, lean red meat. Cutting back just a little and increasing the ratio of healthier fare will take you far on your journey to a healthier you! Next week, we’ll give you some tips on how to get moving…
