Dr. Oz Discusses Chiropractic As One of Best Back Pain Solutions …

The Dr. Oz Show discusses  how safe, effective, and easy chiropractic treatments are to eliminate back pain by addressing and correcting the root cause of the problem.  Dr. Mehmet Oz discussed how recent studies show that chiropractic and physical therapy should be a patient’s first choice and are the best bets in the fight against back pain. Dr. Oz presented chiropractic adjustments as a superior choice over painkillers and surgery for the treatment of back pain, which the acclaimed surgeon believes are over-prescribed and not necessary in most cases. Back surgery is only recommended for critical cases where the damage is irreversible and would not respond to other types of treatment. In his practice, Dr.Shoshany educates patients on the dangers of prescription painkillers, which should be reserved for extreme cases of severe pain. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one person dies from prescription drug overuse every 19 minutes in the U.S. As hazardous and unsafe as painkillers can be, they are prescribed with alarming frequency. Long-term use of prescription painkillers can cause permanent liver, kidney, gastrointestinal, and brain damage, as well as cardiac and respiratory failure, which can lead to death. During his segment on The Dr. Oz Show, Dr. Shoshany talked to Dr. Oz about the long-term health benefits of regular chiropractic adjustments as a treatment for pain as well as a valuable preventive measure.  Dr. Shoshany wrapped up his segment by performing an adjustment on an audience member who was suffering from back pain. This allowed the public to see that chiropractic is not a complicated science, but is rather a simple, straightforward, natural remedy for pain and other ailments.  Dr. Oz’s audience and viewers had a first-hand look at the ease with which an adjustment can restore comfort and well-being without the harmful risks and side effects that are associated with more mainstream treatment options. Relief from Long-term back pain | Healing Back Pain

Your Family physician or General Practitioner can offer advice on specific painkillers or treatments that are necessary for alleviating chronic back pain. Effective treatments may often include an exercise program that may last as long as 12 weeks, with eight sessions. The sessions may be held in a class or group with a qualified instructor, where aerobic exercises along with stretching should strengthen your muscles and improve your posture. Different types of manual therapy, include manipulation, mobilisation and massage therapy. Manual therapy is usually performed by chiropractors, orphysiotherapies, or osteopaths. Manual therapy usually consists of up to nine sessions over a 12 week period. Acupuncture, where needles are inserted at different points on the skin surface has shown to be effective in treating pain. Ten sessions are normally required over a period of 12 weeks. These treatments can be effective for those with severe conditions. Tricyclic antidepressants or TCAs, such as amitriptyline, may be recommended if painkillers do not work. TCAs were originally developed for treating depression, but they have shown some effectiveness in treating chronic pain. There are some very serious side effects with TCAs, that may include thoughts of suicide. If there is any behavioural change or any thoughts or feeling of suicide, consult your GP immediately or go to the hospital and inform everyone of the medication that you are taking. You can visit medicines for back pain, for more information on back pain. Counselling may also be offered as an alternative in dealing with back pain where other treatments are ineffective. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) will often help you to alter the way you feel about the pain that you experience. Some studies have shown that CBT may lower levels of pain in some people, and enable them to be to remain active and participate in regular exercise, which further helps in reducing the symptoms. Surgery is usually only recommended as a last resort. Spinal fusion surgery is a commonly recognised procedure, where the joint that is the cause of the pain is fused to make it immobile. Bone is tissue that is alive, and it is a viable procedure to fuse two or more of the vertebrae together, when an additional bone section is placed in the disk space between the vertebrae. The damaged vertebrae is now prevented from aggravating or compressing the adjacent nerves, ligaments and muscle cells, and the pain symptoms are reduced.. Spinal fusion surgery is a complicated procedure, that is accompanied by some risks and the results are not always optimal. Even after the surgery, there may still be a degree of pain or discomfort, and a possible loss of movement may be experienced.

Awaiting Colposcopy, lower back pain, right hip & leg down to toes …

Awaiting Colposcopy, lower back pain, right hip & leg down to toes… What’s going on ?!? I am waiting in line for a colposcopy to confirm that i have cervical cancer. ( I couldn’t find m/update my last posting) In the last few days, i have had a sudden onset of lower back pain , from my tail~bone to my right hip and shooting down my leg. My GP retired earlier this year, and I have another 3 weeks til the appt with the Ob/Gyn oncologist…I’m also a parent w/ 2 children. I haven’t the time / ability to sit in the urgent care unit (it can take several hours) as I am also nauseous w/headaches from the stress of it all)In the past I had taken Lakota Pain Relief Capsules ( I have a weak stomach) I was told by the referring DR NOT to as it may cause more issues with the potential of Cervical Cancer… Aleve (Ibuprofen/NSAID)no longer takes the edge off of the pain, what if anything can you recommend for pain relief ?!?The pain is 24/7 and is interrupting my sleep and keeping me confined close to home for now… (it’s difficult to bear full weight on my right leg,and i feel weak and nauseated at the same time)Thank you both for answering my question. After being admitted to hospital (I couldn’t bear any weight period)I was found to have an inflammed Sciatic nerve ?!? They’ve scheduled me for a CAT scan later this week to determine the exact cause. In the mean~time, I’m all mellowed out on Codeine and have been told todo as little as possible til then… I have crutches to use for now,(mostly for balance) I’ll be starting a rotation of physio and massage therapy as well in the coming weeks. Possibly followed by chiropractic adjustments & accupuncture for additional pain relief… As far as your hip and leg pain, it sounds like your back is out of adjustment. A chiropractor can relieve that. Your sciatic nerve may be pinched, that can cause in your back, hip and leg. It’s possible that you did something to get your whole spine out of alignment, that can also be causing the headaches and nausea, although there are certainly other causes for that. Sometimes if your neck is out of adjustment, the muscle down the side of your neck can get very tight. This can bring on nausea, headache and eventually vertigo. Trust me, you don’t want to get to that point. Use a hot pack on your neck to try to relax the muscle, but that is only a temporary measure and won’t fix the problem. Find the time to go to a chiropractor and get an adjustment. It’s ridiculous to live with the pain because you think you can’t get to a doctor’s appointment. Take the kids with you if you have to. If that is not the problem, then you wasted an appointment, but if it is the source of the problem, then you just solved a lot of issues. You must put yourself first, if you don’t, you may become incapacitated and then where will the kids be? Your headaches are causing you a lot of your problems, right into your stomach. It seems that when the pain is bad enough, especially for females, that the pain has a way of rolling over in the brain into other parts, the place of choice, the stomach. Your right hip is a different matter, it is being caused by the tendon having shortened itself, something they do quit often. In this shortened state it pulls your thigh into your hip and makes it hard to walk and move in general. There is a way to release that as well. Here is how to release your head, back, lower back and hip. The lower back can be done in several places and all the way to the end of your tailbone:For your neck:place your hand alongside your head and push your thumb in under your ear and place it on the muscle there. Take your fingers and place them on the back of your neck on the muscles there. Press them together and hold a good amount of pressure on them. Then relax, take a deep breath an happening, the muscle going limp under the pressure. Continue to hold until the entire muscle has gone limp.Back:Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg. If you can lean over the outside edge of your leg it will be better for your release. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side. For lower back, on the buttocks:Put both hands behind your back and place them on the muscles alongside your spine and press on them and hold. Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. When the release starts to happen, slowly lower yourself forward as far as you can go. Then release the pressure but hold your body there for one minute longer.Pelvic tendonWith only shorts on lay on a bed and pull your legs up and bend them at the knee so your feet are flat on the bed. Take your hand and run it down the crease between your thigh and body. When you reach the area of your pelvis you will feel a bump in that crease. That is the tendon to work on. Take it between your fingers and thumb and press and hold a good amount of pressure on it. Then relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After 30 seconds slowly lower your leg outward until it has gone as far as it will. Then release the pressure but rest your leg there for one minute longer. As a side note, if you cannot get a grip on the tendon, press on it near the pelvis …
