It’s hard to believe January is almost over! How are your health and fitness goals coming along? Are you up to 10,000 steps a day? Did you ditch the chips? Are you eating more fruits and veggies? Hopefully you answered “yes” to at least one of those three questions! If not, don’t despair – just dust yourself off and don’t look back. Give yourself a break and keep moving forward!
A major component to weight loss and something we haven’t talked about yet is WATER. Water is crucial for life, yet many people do not drink nearly enough of it on a daily basis. It makes up nearly 60-percent of your body weight. Water helps flush toxins out of your vital organs. It hydrates your cells, your muscles, your skin, and your mucous membranes. It keeps everything running and functioning in your body. Even mild dehydration can zap your energy and make you tired. So, your Grand Junction chiropractor wants to know, are YOU drinking enough water?
It’s been recommended over and over that we should be drinking eight, 8-ounce glasses per day, for starters. If you work out, sweat a lot, get sick, etc., that number should increase. And as Colorado residents, we know how dry the air is here, so try to keep a bottle of water with you at all times. This week, try to add more water to your diet. Make it a habit to drink a glass first thing in the morning – it’s particularly nice warmed up with some fresh-squeezed lemon juice. Add a big glass of ice water when you eat your lunch and dinner.
And if you find plain water too boring, try adding lemon and cucumber slices, orange or grapefruit slices, or any sliced fruit you like. Chill overnight, and enjoy! You can also find no-calorie flavored water enhancers in any grocery store. Try some different flavors! The point is to get you drinking more water, so have fun with it and get creative!
