What We Offer
CDL and non-CDL driver exams: We perform DOT exams for commercial driver’s license holders as well as drivers who haul enough weight to require a DOT exam but do not need a CDL. Whatever your situation, we have you covered.
Drug and alcohol testing: A standard DOT exam does not include drug and alcohol testing. If your company requires it, though, we can carry out testing during the same visit. Keep in mind that this is a separate service with its own cost, not part of the basic exam fee.
Pain management and chiropractic care: Repetitive strain is one of the most common problems we regularly see in professional drivers. Beyond DOT exams, we offer chiropractic services to relieve discomfort in your back, neck, shoulders, legs, and hips so you can stay comfortable on long hauls.
Walk-ins and scheduled appointments: We know your schedule is not always predictable, so we welcome walk-ins any time during business hours. If you would rather lock in a specific time slot, call ahead to book an appointment.
About Our Examiner
Our examiner at Spine & Injury Center of Grand Junction is FMCSA certified and brings years of experience working with professional drivers. We understand how much is riding on your exam results, and our team takes that seriously. We will also share practical advice on lifestyle habits to help protect your health and your career over the long term.
How Your DOT Exam Works
Your DOT exam follows a simple three-step process: reviewing your medical history, completing the physical exam, and processing your paperwork. Here is what you can expect at each stage.
Step One: Medical History
You will start by filling out a brief, one-page medical history form. This record gives us a picture of your general health, any past illnesses, and conditions that run in your family. It is straightforward and should not take long.
Step Two: The Physical Exam
Once we have reviewed your history, we will go over any existing medical conditions and conduct a basic urinalysis. During the physical portion of the exam, we will also:
- Measure your height and weight
- Check your blood pressure and pulse
- Assess your range of motion
- Evaluate your vision and hearing
- Listen to your breathing
Step Three: Paperwork
The final step is the paperwork. Our office handles all the required documentation once your exam is complete. You will leave with two copies of your exam results, one to submit when obtaining your CDL and one for your employer. We will also keep a scanned copy in your file at the clinic.
After we finalize everything, you will receive your DOT medical card to carry whenever you are driving. If your company needs a copy faxed directly to them, please have their fax number ready before your appointment.
How To Get Ready for Your Exam
Your DOT physical at Spine & Injury Center of Grand Junction takes about 30 minutes. We accept cash, all major credit cards, and company checks. Before your visit, gather your medical records, make a list of any diagnosed conditions, compile your current medications (including prescriber names), and note any medical devices you use.
On the day of your exam, bring the following items, where applicable:
- Photo identification
- Medical records
- List of all medications, including strength, dosage, and prescriber, for both prescription and over-the-counter drugs
- Eyeglasses or contact lenses
- Hearing aids
- Most recent stress test results (for heart conditions)
- Most recent sleep study results (for sleep apnea)
- Contact information, including phone and fax numbers, for all of your healthcare providers
One important reminder: drink a full glass of water before you arrive. A urine sample is part of the exam, so you will want to come in with a full bladder.
Keeping Your Blood Pressure in Check
We understand that medical appointments can feel stressful, and that anxiety alone can push your blood pressure higher before a visit. We work with drivers every day and know how important it is for you to pass your DOT exam. In the days and weeks leading up to your appointment, here are some steps you can take to help keep your numbers where they need to be:
- Take your blood pressure medication daily, exactly as prescribed.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, following your doctor’s guidance.
- Let us know if you’ve recently missed a dose so we can recheck your reading later in the visit or the next day.
- Cut back on caffeine, nicotine, sugar, and salt in the days before your exam.
- Remember, you won’t see a single white coat in our clinic.
Stop by Spine & Injury Center of Grand Junction any time during office hours for a walk-in DOT exam, or call us ahead of time to schedule your appointment for a DOT physical, drug and alcohol testing, or a chiropractic adjustment. We’re here to help you stay healthy, stay compliant, and stay on the road.
Poor sleep and fatigue can take a serious toll on driver safety and overall health. If you suspect you may be dealing with a breathing issue during sleep, talk to our team about early detection and treatment options for sleep apnea.
